Why We Post Our 990

Radical transparency isn't optional for us. Here's why we publish every financial document and what it means for our donors.

Every year, 501(c)(3) organizations file a Form 990 with the IRS. It's a public document — anyone can request it. But most nonprofits don't make it easy to find.

We do things differently.

What the 990 tells you

Our 990-EZ filings show exactly where every dollar goes. You can see:

  • Total revenue and expenses
  • Program service accomplishments
  • Officer compensation (spoiler: it's $0)
  • Balance sheets and asset information

Why we publish everything

We believe donors deserve more than a "trust us." When you give to Steampunk Farms, you should be able to verify for yourself that:

  1. No one takes a salary. We are 100% volunteer-run. Zero executive compensation, zero contractor fees for leadership.
  2. Funds go to animals. Feed, veterinary care, infrastructure, and transport. That's where the money goes.
  3. We're in good standing. Our IRS Letter of Determination, Articles of Incorporation, and EIN authority are all published on our Fine Print page.

Radical transparency isn't a marketing tactic

It's a core value. We believe the rescue community has been hurt by organizations that lack accountability. We're building something different — a sanctuary where every stakeholder can see exactly what's happening, always.
