Steampunk Farms Rescue Barn Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates steampunkfarms.org. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting any personal information you share with us.

What We Collect

We only collect information you voluntarily provide, such as:

• Name and email address (newsletter signup, contact form, volunteer applications)
• Mailing address (if you request a tax receipt or physical correspondence)
• Mobile phone number (only if you ask us to text you during a phone call — see Text Messaging below)
• Donation information (processed securely through Zeffy — we never see your full payment details)
• Account information from Google or Facebook if you choose to sign in with those services

Our site also collects basic analytics data (pages visited, browser type, referring site) to help us understand how visitors use the site. We do not use advertising trackers.

How We Use It

• Communicate with you about our programs, events, and the animals in our care
• Process and acknowledge donations and issue tax receipts as required by the IRS
• Coordinate volunteer and foster activities
• Improve our website and services

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Text Messaging (SMS)

We send one text message, only when a caller asks for one during a call to our phone line, containing the link they asked for. We do not send marketing texts, campaigns, or newsletters by text, and we never text a number that did not ask us to.

The only way to opt in is to ask us for a text during a call to 760-782-8296. Before we send anything, the call tells you who is texting, that it is one message, that message and data rates may apply, and that you can reply STOP. Opting in to texts is never a condition of donating, making a purchase, volunteering, or using our site, and we have no web form, checkout box, or mailing list that can opt you in.

• Consent: given by you, out loud, during a call you placed to us. We never text a number that did not ask us to.
• Message frequency: one message per request. We do not send recurring texts, campaigns, or newsletters by text.
• Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
• Opt out anytime by replying STOP to any message; reply HELP for help, call 760-782-8296, or email us at rescuebarn@steampunkfarms.org.
• No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. Your mobile number is used solely to deliver the message you asked for, and is not sold or rented.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep our site running properly and privacy-respecting analytics to understand general usage patterns. We do not use advertising cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may not work as expected.

Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of trusted services to operate:

• Zeffy — donation processing (zero platform fees for nonprofits)
• Square / Cleanpunk — merchandise sales
• Twilio — our phone line, voicemail, and text message (SMS) delivery
• Resend — email delivery
• Vercel — website hosting

Each service has its own privacy policy governing data they collect on their platforms.

Donor Privacy

We treat all donor information as confidential. Donation amounts and donor details are never publicly disclosed without your explicit consent, unless required by law.

Data Security

We use SSL encryption and follow industry-standard practices to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your data.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct or delete your information
• Unsubscribe from communications at any time
• Opt out of analytics tracking

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what data we collect and to request its deletion. Exercising these rights will never affect the quality of service we provide.

Children’s Privacy

Our site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted to this page.
